The ‘Gardens’ area at Natural Surroundings is divided into 20 demonstration gardens, varying in size from the tiny Bog Garden to the more expansive Woodland Garden and Reptile Refuge. All of them lie, however, within the range of sizes found in the vast majority of private gardens, making them easy to relate to. Our gardens have two main aims: to demonstrate wildlife-friendly gardening and to showcase plants. Follow the links below to find out more.
Many of our gardens are specifically designed to showcase wildlife-friendly gardening, and demonstrate the many things that you can do in your own garden to attract a wide variety of wildlife. All of these gardens are included in our ‘Wildlife Gardening Trail’, and a 20-page colour Wildlife Gardening Trail guide is available for just £1 from the shop.
We love plants and all of our gardens are designed to showcase them. The emphasis is our ‘Wildflower Show Gardens‘ is, however, very much on plants in all their myriad colours, shapes and sizes, as well as exploring our relaionships with plants as flavourings, medecines and … poisons. As well as a wide selection of British wild flowers, we also grow plants from around the Northern Hemisphere – Europe, eastern Asia and North America. Not only are these interesting and attractive, they are often almost as good for wildlife as native British species.
